Lawrence Bloom
Lawrence Bloom is currently Vice Chairman of the Anagenesis Bioenergy Corporation a Company focussed on the efficient and profitable production of biofuels and energy in a manner that is environmentally sustainable and socially just.
He has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the property industry. Among a number of senior positions, he sat on the Executive Committee of the Intercontinental Hotel Group from where he managed their $3Bn.global real estate portfolio. Whilst there he created an hotel environmental manual, subsequently adopted by HRH Prince Charles, and currently in use in 4.5 million hotel bedrooms worldwide. The most famous part of the manual which only took up three paragraphs in three volumes gave guests the option of not having their towels washed every night.
His passion for sustainability led in 1989 to assisting David Gershon in the creation of Global Action Plan. This initiative was designed to impact personal lifestyle choices around sustainable consumption. It was the first to recognise the significance that the individual could play in this role, It is currently in 23 countries and this year was chosen by Sky TV to be their Charity partner of the year..
Currently Lawrence holds the positions of non executive Deputy Chairman of Noble Cities Plc, a property development company which has been commissioned to build a new African Economic City in Libya, and also Deputy Chairman of the Low Carbon City Initiative, which is twinning six Chinese cities with six US cities to share green technology information. He is Vice Chair of Climate Prosperity Strategies helping to advise Brazilian cities and states, through Rapid Response Teams, on reducing their carbon emissions by 80% by 2020 as part of the Brazil 2020 campaign.
Lawrence is a Council Member and the former Chairman the World Economic Forum, Global Agenda Council on Urban Management and the Chairman of the UN Enviro nmental Programme, Green Economy Initiative, Green Cities, Buildings and Transport Panel. He is the Chairman for United Kingdom Affairs for the Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organisation and is also a Member of the Jury of the Globe Award for Sustainable Cities, held annually in Stockholm, Sweden.
